Octopus Energy | Delivering More to the Grid

This streaming digital TV spot, inspired by the aesthetics of the 1982 sci-fi movie Tron (as well as its 2010 reboot), introduced Octopus Energy’s partnership with Amazon. As a competitive incentive, new customers who switched energy providers were offered a full year of Amazon Prime for locking in their energy rate for 12 months.

Inspiration:

The final animation features the Octopus Energy mascot, reimagined in a glowing Tron-style color palette, zooming across a virtual grid accompanied by a movie trailer-style voiceover and a big visual reveal at the end. The tagline, Delivering more to the grid is both a play on the energy grid, as well as the Amazon partnership.

ADDITIONAL WORK

I also wrote and produced numerous customer acquisition ads that ran on social channels.

In early 2022, on a tight timeline and budget, I directed a 30-second animated TV in a cartoon style titled No Robots, highlighting the company's human-centered customer service and committment to renewable energy, which ran in the Houston, Texas market.

I also conducted interviews over Zoom with a selected set of customers to better understand the postitive experiences they had and let them tell the story in their own words, which became a follow-up campaign called Our Word. This is one of the spots that aired.

And due to the New York-based marketing team’s quick action supporting Houston operations and directly solving customer issues during the crippling February 2021 Texas winter storm crisis when the power was out for several days, we received some amazing customer testimonials, which were used with permission in a social media awareness campaign.
